The EFI-P range is ETI’s latest generation of residual-current circuit-breakers, available as two-pole EFI-P2 and four-pole EFI-P4 units.
RCCBs are categorized into different types based on their sensitivity to various forms of residual currents and their tripping times.
AC Type:
The most basic type, sensitive only to pure sinusoidal AC residual currents.
A Type:
Sensitive to both sinusoidal AC residual currents and pulsating DC residual currents. This type is commonly found in households with electronic devices.
F Type:
Sensitive to residual currents as type A and in addition to residual currents with mixed frequencies up to 1 kHz that can result from single-phase electrical loads with frequency inverters.
B Type:
This type is an upgrade of A type RCCBs and is sensitive to sinusoidal AC residual currents, pulsating DC residual currents, and smooth DC residual currents. Tripping values are defined up to 1kHz. B type RCCBs are crucial in installations with frequency converters, photovoltaic systems, and electric vehicle charging stations.
B+ Type:
Similar to B type, B+ type RCCBs are sensitive to all forms of residual currents but with tripping values defined up to 20kHz and below 420mA. They offer enhanced protection in installations with high-frequency residual currents.
Instantaneous:
Trips immediately when a residual current is detected. This type is commonly used in simple household installations. Max. break time 40ms (Inst.)
Short Time Delayed (G/KV type):
Features a short delay in tripping time to prevent unwanted tripping due to transient currents. K type RCCBs are suitable for installations with electronic components, where transient currents are more common. Time delayed min. 10ms and max. 40ms (G/KV).
Selective (S type):
Designed with a longer tripping delay, allowing downstream instantaneous RCCBs to trip first in case of a fault. S type RCCBs are commonly installed at the beginning of an installation for selective disconnection. They are also more resistant to surge currents. Time delayed min. 40ms and max. 150ms (S).
Reset version (R):
In the reset version, the toggle position clearly indicates the reason for tripping, preventing user mistakes and always making it clear whether the system turning off was intentional (manual).
127V version:
For use in Un lower than standard system voltage (for instance 110V, 125V or 127V) system.
NL version:
Connection of the neutral conductor on the left side, which allows the use of standard busbars (1p, 3p) for connecting RCCBSs and MCBs.

RCCBs operate based on the principle of Kirchhoff's Current Law. They continuously monitor the electrical current entering and leaving a circuit through a toroidal core. When the current flowing through the live wire and the current returning through the neutral wire are balanced, the magnetic fields generated by these currents cancel each other out.
If a fault occurs, some current may leak to earth, creating an imbalance in the magnetic fields. This imbalance induces a current in a sensing coil, which activates a relay to trip the RCCB and interrupt the electrical circuit, preventing potential harm.

RCCBs are essential in various settings:
AC-type – Instantaneous:
Best suited to simple household circuits that feed only conventional loads such as filament lighting, cookers or resistive heaters; no electronic devices are present, so detection of pure sinusoidal leakage is sufficient.
A-type – Instantaneous:
Intended for modern homes or small offices where single-phase electronic appliances (LCD TVs, computers, printers, washing machines, dishwashers …) may generate pulsating-DC fault currents.
A-type G/KV (short-time delay) and A-type S (selective):
Used as upstream devices when several RCCBs are connected in series. Their 3 kA surge-proof design and built-in delay prevent nuisance tripping and ensure selectivity in split-load consumer units or apartment risers.
F (EFI-F):
For single-phase inverter appliances with mixed-frequency leakage (when using washing machines, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers...).
B-type – Instantaneous:
Protects three-phase installations that employ frequency converters or rectifiers, e.g. lift drives, cranes, variable-speed pumps, UPS systems, PV inverters on the AC side, and AC-supplied EV chargers. It reacts to smooth-DC leakage up to 1 kHz.
B-type G/KV and B-type S:
Fitted at the main switchboard of converter-rich sites (industrial lines, large PV plants, fast-charge stations) where high inrush currents and upstream/downstream selectivity are critical; their 3 kA surge immunity and delayed tripping avoid unwanted shutdowns while coordinating with downstream RCCBs.
B⁺-type – Instantaneous:
Chosen when the same installations must also meet enhanced fire-protection rules (VDE 0664-400) or when converters generate high-frequency leakage currents up to 20 kHz; typical for large solar arrays, escalators, data-centre power rails and modern high-speed drives.
